The evening sun setting through the window in the bell tower of the church in the city park of Fuerth as seen from the roof terrace of my friends, high above the city.

on vacation
The Beauty of Being is on vacation enjoying the Beauty of Being. Posts might appear sporadically....

lavender
Lavender, waiting patiently on my windowsill until it is time to be transplanted into the rock garden and make friends with thyme, oregano and rosemary.

fortune cookie
Good health and financial independence - I would not mind either, but both even better. Throw in some love and it would be the best!

blue miracle
What a surprise today looking up: blue sky. An unexpected miracle, I thought it might never happen again. It felt good.

misty daydreaming
It was so foggy and misty all day yesterday, it was the perfect day for daydreaming, which I did. I spent a good chunk of time in a parallel world inside my head. I had a great time there.

the power of social media
In my indecision and perfectionism to find the perfect glass, I am using the power of Facebook to get other people's opinion. Internet greatness - hurray! It is like going shopping with a whole bunch of girl friends :)

fallen petals
There is something beautiful in fallen petals and flowers spent, they are a reminder of the transient state of beauty or anything else for that matter. Everything changes, the cycle of life, dying and being reborn.

chinks in the barn
"Let the light of late afternoon shine through chinks in the barn," is from Jane Kenyon's poem Let Evening Come, which I was singing tonight at rehearsal (music by Brian Holmes). It made me think of this picture that I took many years ago while chaperoning a field trip to an apple orchard. The photo does not do justice to the mental picture I have of the rays of light filtering through. Some images stay with us for the rest of our lives, like little refuge islands to visit reminiscing.

reading fever
Even though spring fever would be more appropriate at this time in the year, my children have reading fever instead. The only fever I really like to nurture!

water
Without it we are nothing: Water.
Today I used it to make tea, washed dishes, did laundry, watered my transplanted grasses and hostas, made lemonade, scrubbed my hands, kept the newly seeded lawn moist, took a shower, drank some, made icecubes, brewed coffee - you get the drift.

home grown
These tulips were in the way of my immense landscaping efforts and so for the first time ever, I cut them and brought them inside. Aren't they amazing?

cello
Unbeknown to Sophie, I could hear her cello practice really well while doing yard work and she sounded so much better laboring under the assumption that nobody could hear her.

better late than never
Yippie - we got an Easter package from Germany - lovely! Within seconds of opening, everybody had grabbed a piece of marzipan, which was quite funny.

double rainbow
Without rain there can't be a rainbow, is nature trying to tell me something? So glad we were early for Sophie's soccer game, otherwise we would have missed this.

purple trumps green
Apparently, if you throw a whole lot of blueberries into a supposedly green smoothie it actually turns purple.

brook
This struck me while driving by, I simply had to stop the car, grab the camera and walk down to it - very refreshing for the soul. Click on it to see it in all its glory!

woodruff
It is May and woodruff time, called master of the woods in Germany. It is so subtle and sweet and earthy and unique and my little plantation - under the magnolia tree, obviously - spreads further every year. It makes a lovely may wine, which is just the thing to enjoy while relaxing after yard work.
